Covin Supermarkets announce new jobs for Passage West
Leading retailer outlines plans for Ireland's largest Eurospar opening

Togher, July 25th 2008: Covin Supermarkets Ltd, one of Cork's leading retail operators, announced today the potential creation of over fifty jobs as a result of a new development planned for Passage West. After 15 months of development and a considerable amount of investment the state of the art 16,500 sq ft retail store will be opening in October in Passage West. Meeting the growing population requirements in the Passage West, Glenbrook, Monkstown and Rochestown areas and providing essential employment in a time of economic unrest this announcement today will be welcomed by many.

The flagship 16,500 sq ft EUROSPAR s aimed at bringing the next stage of store design to Irish consumers by optimising the range of products and services offered in one location for the family weekly and top-up supermarket shoppers. This state of the art supermarket meets all the needs of a family shopper, all under one roof. Unique features include EUROSPAR's exclusive Kitsu Noodle Bar, Signature Sandwich range, Big Pan Take Home Solutions, Tim Horton's Premium Coffee and Doughnut range and a Treehouse Juice and Smoothie Bar. In addition, the store includes an extensive traditional meat and deli counter, a fresh fruit and veg department, an innovative and modern full off-licence, in-store bakery, a broad range of health foods and a hot and cold "Enjoy Now" range. Importantly this state of the art supermarket is a first of its kind in Cork.

Speaking on the new development and job creation announcement Colin Byrd, director Covin Supermarkets, commented "We are delighted to be working with EUROSPAR on this innovative and exciting project. Extensive research was conducted into a prime location for this new retail concept and Passage West was identified for a number of reasons: site is situated on the Rochestown / Passage Road, growing population trends and commuter culture, easy access from Rochestown / Douglas and Cobh. It is encouraging to see, in a time of job losses, a local Cork business taking the initiative to take a risk and develop a state of the art retail offering. Importantly Passage West will benefit from the increased employment, increased footfall and, potentially, new people relocating to the area. We are looking forward to opening our doors in late September".

Covin Supermarkets will be hosting a Recruitment Fair on Wednesday, July 30th in Maryborough House Hotel, Douglas (10am to 10pm). The objective of this event is to introduce the EUROSPAR concept to potential employees and offer individuals the opportunity of walk in interviews. In addition, it will enable interested parties to meet the Covin Supermarkets management team and gain a greater insight into the plans for Passage West. The company will be recruiting a full compliment of retail staff from Assistant Manager to part time check-out assistants.

Speaking on the importance of recruiting the right team Kevin White, director Covin Supermarkets, stated "Getting the right team on board is crucial to the service offering we plan for Passage West. We want to recruit for the future, ensuring our team grows with us over the coming months and years. We have recently appointed Shirley O' Connor as our HR Manager and she will be playing a very active role in driving forward the recruitment process for this new store. We would encourage people to attend the recruitment fair to learn more about EUROSPAR Passage West".
