Newstalk invades Cork with George Hook Flying the Flag High
National Independent Talk Radio Station launches special radio broadcasts for Cork

Cork, Monday June 16th 2008: Newstalk, Ireland's national independent talk radio station, announced today a series of outdoor broadcasts to be hosted in Cork city on June 25th, 26th and 27th. In an innovative promotional move Corkonians witnessed an invasion on the city with Newstalk presenter George Hook returning to the city of his birth in military style. The outspoken radio presenter drove through the streets of Cork in a WW2 Ferret armoured car to announce the launch of the special radio broadcasts from Grand Parade.

On June 25th, 26th and 27th Newstalk will broadcast two of their flagship shows, The Right Hook with George Hook and Lunchtime with Eamon Keane, live from the streets of Cork in a specially designed outside broadcast unit.

The shows will be live and deliver on local, national and international news through a conversational and unprecedented personality-driven format. Importantly both presenters will interview well known local personalities as well as covering important issues of relevance to Cork listeners. There will be a total twelve hours, over six shows of entertaining talk radio.

Speaking on the launch of the special radio broadcasts from Grand Parade Elaine Geraghty, Newstalk CEO, commented "Bringing the outdoor broadcast unit to Cork is an important element of the rollout of Newstalk's national coverage. We are delighted that 20% of our audience is from Munster and this continues to grow. By having the team on the ground next week will provide a platform for critical commentary and analysis, facilitate live reports from the field and enable listeners to get involved in the many discussions planned for the programmes. Naturally we are delighted to be bringing two of our Munster stars, George and Eamon, back home."

In less than a decade George Hook has become one of the biggest names in Irish media. Talking on his return to Cork George commented: "The old cliché rings true for me; 'You can take the man out of Cork but you cannot take Cork out of the man'."

Newstalk is inviting the people of Cork to visit George Hook and Eamon Keane live from Grand Parade, Cork on 25th, 26th & 27th June. Lunchtime with Eamon Keane 12.30pm - 2.00pm and The Right Hook with George Hook 4.30pm - 7.00pm.
